Water safety is crucial in the Philippines, where drowning is a major risk. Follow essential tips like supervised swimming, wearing life jackets, and learning CPR to prevent tragedies.

Water Safety Tips for Every Juan

Drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death worldwide, and the Philippines is no exception. Given the country’s abundant coastlines, rivers, and lakes, it’s essential to understand and practice Water Safety Tips to prevent tragic incidents. Water-related accidents can happen quickly, often without warning, making awareness and preparedness critical.

Water Safety Statistics
Drowning can affect people of all ages, but the most vulnerable are children aged 1-14, making up 38% of drowning deaths. Most incidents occur in natural bodies of water, with beaches accounting for 42% of cases, followed by rivers and lakes at 28%. Drowning incidents are more frequent during the dry season (46%) when more people head to the water.

Water Safety Tips:

  1. Swim in Safe, Supervised Areas – Choose beaches or pools with lifeguards and safety equipment. Avoid unfamiliar rivers, open seas, or unsupervised ponds.
  2. Designate a Water Watcher – An adult should always monitor children in or near water without distractions like phones or books.
  3. Wear a Life Jacket When Needed – Especially for boating, jet skiing, or when children or weak swimmers are involved. Ensure it fits snugly.
  4. Check the Weather and Water Conditions – Avoid swimming during rain, strong currents, or red flag warnings. Monitor advisories from PAGASA or local authorities.
  5. Learn CPR and First Aid – Knowing how to respond in the first 3–5 minutes can save a life before rescuers arrive.

Together, we can make water safer for every Juan.
